Ibiza
Dalt Vila, or the Old Town of Ibiza, is one of the best preserved castle-cities of Europe and also a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city overlooking the port is very impressive with its white buildings, cobblestoned streets full of boutiques and restaurants. Entering its 13th century baroque style main gate next to the Santa Maria Cathedral instantly transmits you to the medieval ages. The cathedral’s belltower was once a minaret, built during the Islamic period. There is even a small museum replicating the medieval Moorish city of Madina Yabisa, displaying artefacts and audiovisuals depicting how the island was like before it was captured by the Catalan forces in 1235. Today, the island is famous as the number one party destination of Europe, where world-famous DJs take stage at beach parties. This tradition goes back to the 1960s, when hippis formed colonies around the island. Today, a daily hippi market is still set up at different spots of the island. Some of the bars and clubs not to miss are Lio Ibiza with its cabaret shows with dinner; Pacha Club and Amnesia with their DJ parties that last till the morning. Ushuaia Ibiza and Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, on the other hand, among the entertainment hotels that caters to a fun-loving crowd with special themed events. If you would like to explore the bohemian face of the island, head to the tiny village of Santa Gertrudis, which is located at the heart of Ibiza. Today it is an international place, with lots of resident young families from all over Europe. It’s nice venues, restaurants and boutiques are open all year round. Do not forget to explore some of the best beaches of the island too: The sandy bay of Cala Salada is the perfect place for private boats to moor, with its landscape surrounded by pine forests. The twin beaches of Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta are separated by rocks formations from each other. Jumping off the cliffs is a popular activity among locals as well as visitors here! Head to the nearby San Antonio Bay for its world-famous sunsets. Playa des Salinas, Cala Comte and Cala D’Hort are other popular beaches to check!
